Might be a dumb question but.............

How would you know if you have a low lying placenta, or placenta previa, or an incompetent cervix, etc. etc. I was just curious. I'm not having any problems at all, no bleeding or spotting and everything is fine during and after sex but I was curious how you are diagnosed for these things. What do they look for? Thanks!! the placenta position is noted at the level II....

as for the incompetent cervix, I was wondering the same thing... My suspicion is that it can only be diagnosed by an internal.... which is sort of scary since one isn't normally performed throughout the entire 2nd trimester Chat Icon

You may experience bleeding, cramping or other signs and then you would get checked by your doctor (an ultrasound would be able to tell for sure) who would make the diagnosis. Chat Icon

Ultrasound would show it, and you might have some bleeding.

The way the drs caught my extremely short cervix was through an internal sonogram. I felt fine, but ended up in the hospital with a blood clot, the drs at the hospital decided to do an internal sono and found it.

I started spotting in week 10 and 3 weeks later, at the ultrascreen they saw it. By the level II, it was gone.

I have an incompetent cervix and have been on bed rest for the past two weeks. It was diagnosed by an internal sono. I used go bi-weekly to my especialist, after this I will be going weekly.
You are suppose experience cramping and discomfort as for me, I wasn't feeling anything at all. I was told I was having silent contractions...I just happen to be have my appt on that day.

Also, for what I found out, usually people that experience this are pass 20 weeks. I was only 14 wks when I found out.
