I just got a new Flat screen 42" TV. We have Direct TV & I am now Furious as they now say I have to BUY a new box for $99 AND have them swap my dish and then there is a $10 charge per month.

I have FIOS Internet & Phone & will be calling to get info on TV tomorrow...

Any feedback on it.....do they charge for the receivers? monthly fee? chrg for installation?

I am so pi$$ed right now. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I could be wrong, FIOS charges a fee for HD service alone, then you have your charge per month for the box.

Cablevision doesn't charge for HD service but charges a montly fee for receiver

I would go to the FIOS site for more info and on your FIOS internet, i beleive you have a link that will take to a place where you can see all features and upgrades right from your computer.

when you buy a direct TV receiver, you "OWN" it...this is why it cost you 100 bucks up front but you don't pay per month for a receiver

when you pay per month, there is only a rental fee and you don't own it. There is no upfront charge

I have DishNetwork, and when they upgraded my receiver, they had to upgrade the receiver modules on the dish, not the dish itself. It was free (part of the monthly service charge) to have them swap it out, and it only took a few minutes. Two or four screws per dish, and a few minutes, and it's all swapped out.

They need to swap them out to handle the HDTV signal, I'm assuming.

true. the hd signals are handled by different satelites and therefore they need to change the dish itself and re-aim it. i believe they do this for free.

as far as the other monthly fees, it's all outlined plain and simple on their website. i dont know why people think they're just gonna get HD service for free.

The new dish is so you can get all those HD channels... I think it's now over 90 HD channels with 60 or so more coming by the end of this year.

Make sure it's the new dish called the Slimline and it looks like this.

Re: HDTV Service

Cablevision does not charge extra for HD service. You pay the same price for an SD receiver as you would an HD receiver. You just have to swap out the receiver.

DirectTV told me they would have to install a new dish to work with the HD receivers.

I called Verizon today & they will be there on Monday to install my FIOS TV for 3 TV's.

We are getting HD on 2 TV's & one regular receiver as well as a Multi HD/DVR (we can record on on the one TV & watch it on ANY TV in the house.
