Freddy showered!
and he got a shave and a haircut by a family friend!
We think he didn't want to see himself naked due to his amputation..seeing the limb missing..etc..bad feeling about his body. I guess I would feel the same. We'll see what the doc says tomorrow.
eta: we are switching psychiatrists as well. He is still very depressed and needs some more help.

I wish he was making progress. I think the only reason he showered is that the woman was coming to cut his hair and he likes her and she called him and told him she wasn't coming if he didn't.
he really needs some better meds and therapy.
I'm just glad he doesn't stink anymore.

I can definitely see how the amputation could be the issue.
Tell Fred I'm insulted that he didn't shower for me and Gary 
I hope the new doc works out and prescribes him something that kicks the depression

my therapist came up with that. First, it's hard to get in the shower with one leg. Ok, if he can get on the toilet, he can get on the shower bench..but then to disrobe and see yourself without the limb...just devastating. I wonder what the doc tomorrow will say. He recommended two other psychiatrists that deal with TBI. We're hoping he can help us get him in soon.
he's still in the denial/anger stage of his recovery. He's very unhappy. I want to help him in the worst way.
He didn't know you were coming. He probably would have hidden out in his room if he knew company was coming.
He still doesn't want to leave the house except for PT. We are hoping he will agree to OT on the other days. Rob is going to suggest it today when he's there. Is Gary going there today?

Gary goes to St Charles on Thursdays. Actually I will be with him this week. We have an appt in the morning for workers comp , so I'll take him to St Charles in the afternoon. His appt is 2-3 with Dr Sandberg.
What dr they recommend?

Dr. George Fairey and Dr. Jane Perr
Fred will be there Thursday at 2:30 for PT..it's an hour session. Come by and say hi to him. I'm sure he will love it!

i hope so. I've spoken about you so many times maybe it sunk in. Just remind him. Mom and dad will be there too.
I'm hoping that one day soon, we can get him transportation like Gary has and then mom and dad don't have to worry about taking him. He can go with an aide if he will allow it.

I almost think an aide would be better for him. I think he would have less resistance with an outsider.
Almost like the haircut/shower situation.
Who would need to recommend it in order for him to have one?

we had an aide in the house for a few weeks. She got him to wash and shower and Fred resented it. He actually fired some of his therapists...
he didn't want anyone in the house. I'm hoping as he progresses he will want the support. Things change and I'm hoping they change for the better soon!
I had the worst day yesterday. My anxiety was off the charts.

we can get an aide to take him but I don't know how secure we feel about it. We can talk to the social worker about it.
Once he's on medicaid, a taxi and the aide would be covered. He could go on able ride but I doubt he would want to do that.
Medicaid and the TBI waiver services are key. It could really help and make the situation much more bearable for everyone.
How nice is it that the neuropsychologist is willing to meet with us again to help us? Next step is Fred having a session.
