Do you often...
mix up words? I've always wondered if I have a mild case of dyslexia. I was just writing a note on my calendar and noticed that I wrote Mighican instead of Michigan. I frequently write "d" for "b" and vise versa and when I'm reading I'll change or add in words all the time. Does anyone else do this?

I do that, but more often when I'm speaking... I'm always re-reading what I type to make sure I didn't mix anything up.
ETA: I'm very very bad when it come to reading. I will see a sign and start laughing because I think it says something funny, when I show DH he reads it correctly and I realize that I totally screwed up what it said.

I will often say two words at the same time, such as gromarket, mixing up grocery store and market. It's like my brain and mouth are not in sync.

I do that. I think it is because I am always thinking ahead. Only when writing though, not really typing.

Re: Do you often...
Not words, but numbers. I remember a few years ago, I was visiting my mother at the hospital and walked into a room and it was not my mother. I went to the nurses station and they said "Oh, your mother is in room ... in the other wing" Had the numbers mixed up. I try to pay more attention ( a lot more) especially with phone numbers and paying bills, etc.

trust me, you don't have dyslexia. I've taught people that have this and you would definitely have other signs or behaviors besides flipping a few letters around..... often, the brain gets overloaded with input and it's easy to switch things around.
unless it's really difficutl to read, write or work with numbers, you don't have dyslexia. if you were dyslexic it would also show up in other ways (difficulty with knowing left-from right, having a good sense of direction, etc. etc.

Oh, that's nothing. Now, if you were writing Detroit instead of Michigan, then I'd be worried.

Good to know. That sounds like me. I often get my lefts and rights confused (I need to see the L my two fingers make) and directions are a nightmare for me. For some reason I also confuse my alphabet. And if I read a short paragraph or article I like to start in the middle or the end and then go back to the beginning. I have never been diagnosed or anything, but now you have me curious.

I'm horrible with directions and I do confuse my L&R (usually when it's verbal, ie someone says "Place that to your left") I don't have real difficulty reading, I just change words sometimes and I don't have any real math issues, although I do switch numbers around too. I just wonder sometimes why I jumble things up and I never really asked anyone if they do it too.
It's seems pretty common and I feel a lot better about it now.
