Long Beach and parking
fh and i are looking at apartments that don't include parking. how hard is it at 6:30 pm to find a spot. anyone have specific areas to look in?

I used to work in a restaurant in Long Beach, so I know that during the winter, the parking isn't that bad.. but during the summer and if you are close to the beach, it can be a nightmare over there.. Good Luck!!

On the West End, it can be hard year round...it depends if you live on a one way also and how far west you are.
I LOVED living on the West End (did it for 6 years) but your parking can dictate your life (summertime you tend NOT to go anywhere because it can be terrible when you come home)
I have a house now and I am still "training" myself out of the school of thought that I can go anywhere at anytime and not have to worry

My DH was living in the west end for a few years when we first met and were dating. He worked late some nights and really had a hard time finding parking... On the weekend, he took his bicycle if he had to go local. Or I came to get him! Near the Boardwalk, parking can be tough too. We looked at a few condos there before deciding to get a house instead.
His last place before leaving LB was on the bay side, closer to the Rec Center. No problems there, they were all residential houses with nice streets.

we lived on the east end for 2 years in a great building
we didn't have a spot- and would only have a problem really late at night
but I wont lie- there were many nights that I had to park 2 blocks away
one good thing about my building was that it has a circular driveway and a doorman- so if I went shopping- I could pull up in front and have help
let me know if you want the building info
it's on the ocean with a pool
and you can deal with the manager directly and you don't have to pay a fee

We rented part of a house on East Olive and Franklin Boulevard. We had a driveway, which the RE agent was really adamant about pointing out a few times, and we didn't realize how much of a necessity that was until summer came.
During beach season, spots were really hard to come by, and I wasn't even close to the hottest beach area - Riverside. Because that's where people would walk down from the train station.
There was a woman on Franklin who would sit in a beach chair in a spot in front of her house and sell it to anyone who would pay for it. 
I guess it really depends on how much having to search for a parking spot would bother you. You just wouldn't know how close you could get from day to day, season to season.
Long Beach was a wonderful place to rent though.

We lived in the building across the street from Waldbaum's on Park ave. for 2 years. We just moved out 2 weeks ago. Never had problems with parking there at all.
Sometimes you had to walk a block, but that's about it.
They also have a parking lot but I think it's like $100.00 a month or something. No need!!
I do know people that live in the West End and certain parts of the East End on the water and parking is a nightmare.

I think you mean Edwards. I lived on Riverside and never had a problem with parking ;). ETA. We are still paid in full through April so I know my landlord will be showing the apartment soon if you are interested...........send me a FM.

Several years back, I decided not to move to Long Beach because I was driving to work every day and wasn't able to find an apartment with a parking spot.

I lived in Long Beach for about a year. Parking in the winter is not a problem at all but in the summer, anytime of the day is a problem.
