ditto! saw it on dateline with DH the other night! we just could not get over how bizarre the whole thing was!

ITA. I sobbed the whole time I watched this. What a sad story, but one that shows the unbelievable strength of character of some people. Both families are true examples of grace and dignity.
Sadly, I can see how these things happen. When my brother was younger he went out with friends and got totally drunk. He passed out on someones lawn, and these people found him the next morning and had him rushed to the hospital. My underage brother stupidly only had a fake ID on him.  Needless to say the parents of the kid's ID showed up to the hospital, only to find out that it was not their son laying in the bed. But, they had no idea who my brother was, and it wasn't until almost two days later that they got a hold of my parents, who were away (and only after the nurses found his beeper and called back one of the numbers of his friends asking if they knew who he was). A much much lesser degree to what happened with this car accident, but can see how these crazy things happen.

I saw this on Dateline the other night. Such a horribly strange story. I marvel at the characters of both families- never once did anyone seem angry or speak rudely about the other.
