Very upsetting experience today...need help..

I had a really sad, weird experience just before.

I went to the cemetary to visit my gram. When I got there, I found a white, taper candle in the ground that had been burnt, a dollar bill and two dimes and one penny on the top of the stone and an empty mexican drink bottle (jarrito-mandarin orange) on her grave. I got chills the second I saw it because it looked weird (in a witchcraft sort of way) and I know NO ONE in my family did this.

My mom had also left a pieta there at easter that was my grandmothers and it was stolen. Not to say the same people did this though.

Does anyone have ANY idea what this could be at all???? One twenty one means nothing to us that we can think of, Ive even looked the passages up in the bible. All of this stuff was specifically PLACED there. It is creeping me out and I am livid that someone put this at my precious grandmothers grave. Has anyone ever seen this? Heard of it? Have any idea what it could be??? TIA.

Not sure but I found a candle ritual site thing and it said this for a white tapered candle

white -- spiritual blessings, purity, healing, rest

so it doesnt seem like it was a voodoo thing

or it could be kids messing around????

My dad leaves coins (change) on the headstones when he visits. So maybe that's why the money was there?

Also, they do clean ups once in a while - that could be why your mother's item was missing.

Maybe if someone was drinking they were at the wrong grave site and didn't notice.

It wasnt liquor..it was a mexican soda apparently.

Also..all the other stuff that was there is still there. A palm cross, an angel, a picture of the family. All but the pieta. This is so disturbing. Chat Icon

That is incredibly strange. Unfortunatley, I have no advice but just wanted to say I'd be equally disturbed by this.

Please keep us posted, I'd love to know if you find out anything.

Re: Very upsetting experience today...need help..

actually a similair thing happened to my grandmother...it might be the same cemetery...it's the only one in our neighborhood

My grandmother visits my grandfathers grave 2-3 times a week. She cleans it she plants flowers, etc. One day my aunt found a plastic bag in my grandmothers house...inside was like a ball of aluminum foil with a doll, candles, and other wierd items.

She asked my grandmother what it was and she had no idea...she said it was garbage from the cemetery. My aunt was very freaked out even more so because my grandmother brought it into the house.

She even brought a priest to bless the house. It never happened again from what I know. But who knows what my grandmother cleans up at the gravesite.

DW and I talked about this last night. It's possible that it was just an old friend of gram's, and it was an inside joke that they had, or a signal to the other one, or something very innocent and personal. It's absolutely impossible for you to know every single person and every single inside joke that your grandmother was a part of.

I would look at it as a friend of your grandmother is showing their respects, and it was something that only your gram would understand and enjoy seeing.

I understand what you're saying but it is TOTALLY possible for us to know everyone my gram would have known. She was 95..lived with my mother for years, dealt with no one except the family. It wasnt a joke..definately not. I think I wish it were though. And its sad, because now I dont feel comfortable going to the cemetary by myself now. I used to go all the time and just sit there but now I am scared because of what I found..you should not be made to feel like that at a gravesite of a loved one. Chat Icon

Honestly, its possible that it means nothing at all.

Sometimes when families go to a cemetery with kids, the kids run around they think its a big park. A little kid might have left their soda can and either moved money from another tombstone or left their own money.

i wouldn't get worked up about it.

No answers as of yet.

I guess maybe I should have explained it a bit better. None of this was thrown or scattered on her grave..it was all placed there.

The bottle was placed, dug firmly into the ground behind the white candle. The white candle was in front of it, again dug into the ground as to not tip over I assume. The dollar bill was placed on top of the headstone with a rock holding it down, the twenty one cents right next to it. This was all placed out.

Ive gotten some fm's, which I greatly appreciate, and while I am happy people answered me..I am still freaked out. I am more upset that some is desecrating (sp?) my grandparents grave than it actually being a "curse" of some sort. Why cant people just lay in peace? This is her final place of rest for Gods sakes. I'm sorry to vent here, just needed to get it out.

I can understand why this would freak you out ... it would do the same to me. However, I wouldn't let the negative thoughts get into my head. If you are religious, I would just pray and know that God is protecting her now. I would just dismiss these thoughts and move on. It's scary ... I'm sure. While I totally understand why you are upset (I would be a little disturbed myself), do you have reasons to believe that someone would have any reason to do this intentionally? Whether its a curse, etc.? I generally don't believe in these type of superstitious things, and unless there was "something" there between your grandparents and anyone that this, I would generally dismiss this and not worry about it.

I would be freaked out too.
I don't think the intentions of who ever did this was negative. A white candle is positive and I would consider money to be as well.
Perhaps it is not someone your Gram new but someone who knew you or your Mom?

ETA: My family often pours liquor on our family graves.

Re: Very upsetting experience today...need help..

Maybe someone was praying at the wrong gravesite? Maybe someone came out here to visit family that they haven't seen in decades, and they wanted to visit their grandmother's grave. They didn't know her last name (or maybe it's the same name or close to your grandmother), and they picked what they *thought* was the right site. I've seen and heard of things like that happening.

Just trying to think of various scenarios that could easily happen, and are all very innocent.
