What do you do with gifts you don't like?

DH told me last night that his mom had asked him what kind of earrings I liked - DH told her dangly ones and she sort of made a face. DH tells me later that she showed him the earrings she got me and no offense, but they sound nasty. They sound like big nasty grandma earrings!!! Meanwhile - I got her dangly earrings which she prob won't like - we should just keep out own gifts - lol!
When you really don't like something, do you try to find out where it's from? I'm sure she'd rather me return something for something else I will actually wear/use over these earring just sitting in a drawer!

I'm already stressed out about trying not to look like I hate them when I open them!

depends on how much you think she spent on them.
If you think she spent a few bucks, then i would ask her where she got it to exchange..I wouldn't want someone spending a lot of money on something i will never wear

It depends on who gave it to me. Some people get really offended if you ask them where they got it or imply that you don't like it. If someone gives me the gift receipt, I return it. If not, I do what someone else said - I ask anyone if they want it and then donate it if I have no takers. If it is jewelry, I might wear it a few times in front of them and then just hold on to it.
