Spin off tipping....
This is my first year in my house soooo....How much should we tip the mailman? And If I see the Garbage men how much for them and is it all together or each person separate?

Mailman I'd say $15 or so. My boss does $20.
Garbage men-if there are two maybe $10 a peice.

Since we bought the house we have been throwing out a lot of stuff - so we give the Garbage men $50 and the post man $20.

I can never figure out how much and who to tip. Half the time I feel like Mr. Pink from "Reservoir Dogs" had it right (this is just how I feel sometimes, not hwo I act):
"I don't tip...if someone really puts forth the effort, I might...but this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. Society says tip these people over here but not these people..., that's f-ed up."

Not to hijack the post, but when you leave the tip for the garbage men, where do you leave it?
DH goes to work very early, I'm usually in the shower around the time when they come, so last year we taped a big white envelope to one of the cans, praying they would get it! (They did thankfully).
What do all of you do?

ours pass in the evening and someone is usually home.

$50 for the garbage men and nada for the mail(person).
i leave a note about once a week iin the mailbox instructing him/her to only deliver mail w/ last name of "X". all other mail should be delivered to "x" address. 8 months later we still receive at least 3 pieces of mail a day addressed to the previous owner. not only do we receive junk mail but letters from the IRS, checkbooks from the bank, and receently, a court summons. i opened a letter one day by accident and it was in re: to an unpaid balance for work that was completed prior to when we moved in. i called the company and told them she moved and gave them her new address.
sorry, just had to vent.

For the mail that comes for the previous owner I send it back to sender saying no longer at this address.... I think the mailman has to deliver it even though it has a different name...
