Time Out Question
At what age did you start or will you start giving Time Outs? I was at my wits end yesterday with Charlie and gave him one. With a little struggle, he finally sat for 1 minute. Later I told him he was going to get another if he didn't stop and all smiles, he walked to the corner. I'm just not sure if it does any good yet. He's 18 months.

Re: Time Out Question
hes def old enough....
i was talking to lisa about this- i havent had to USE a time out yet, as hannah is a pretty good girl, and when i tell her once to stop something, she does....
but read more into discipline to understand time outs- like, useing them when u are out and stuff, WHEN to use them, all that stuff....im pretty sure u use it after u tell them to stop, and they dont, and then u tell them- this is your warning, stop, or else u are getting a time out, and then they do it again, thats when i think u use it....i think the most imprtant part of a time out is to NEVER LET THEM OUT without them doing their time (one minute per age year i think)...whether it takes u an HOUR to keep putting them back to the seat/chair/wherever.....

Re: Time Out Question
I think if he understand that you are putting him there and he stays there, then he is ready.
DD is 21 months, and she has NO understanding of the meaning - she isn't ready, but we keep trying.

I see what she does - don't mean every kid is ready for it.
Usually when I watch it - it is older kids Not one year olds

Re: Time Out Question
I agree, DD is 20 months and really doesnt get it. We have her sit in her room on a little rug. Now when you ask her if she wants a time out she says "Yes, sit" I think she has to be a little older?

Re: Time Out Question
DS is 17 months old and does not get the 'time-out' concept at ALL.. but we have started putting him in the 'naughty chair' (so to speak ) when he does something really wrong just to start getting him used to the concept and to stop the bad behaviour from continuing. However for now, when he gets a time out he thinks its funny and laughs .. until he realized Mommy and/or Daddy mean business, then he gets kind of pizzy... oh my am I in for it
