I had to call 911...

Dh and I were driving on Nesconset Hwy in Pt. Jeff when as we passed a man (who looked homeless) fell INTO the street backwards. it looked as if he slammed the back of his head and did not move at all. He was just lieing on his back. But it looked like he was with other people bu they didnt even move to see if the man was alright.
Since we had our sons with us and we were driving passed as it happened, we couldnt stop. So I quickly called 911. I watched him as far as I could and he wasnt moving.
I really hope he's ok. DS had about 1000 questions about who the man was and what happened, etc.
So strange...

So sad. That was nice of you to call. I would have as well, but so many people would not.

wow! thats scary! so good that you called! hopefully he was ok... i can't beleive that if there were people with/near him they didn't check to see if he was ok!!
one of DHs friends had a similar situation- we went out in hoboken, NJ to some bars and on his way home, DHs friend just happened to see a girl slip and fall backwards on the sidewalk. no one was with her... LUCKILY, this friend is also an EMT, so he stopped and the girl actually wasn't breathing! Chat Icon he had to do CPR and he called the local EMTs to come help. it was scary to think that she wasn't breathing and what would have happened if he hadn't stopped!

Re: I had to call 911...

When I used to live in Queens, I was driving home very early in the morning and saw a dead body lying along the BQE. I didn't know then that they were dead, but called 911 anyways. I had a detective call me later that day to say that the person was in fact dead, and did I see anything suspicious as I was driving by. Freaky.

Re: I had to call 911...

I'm notorious for doing this- I have called 911 4 times in the past year for suspicious behavior seen as I was driving by. 1 man collapsed in a park and noone around him did anything. I parked and got out and as I was approaching him he stood up and stumbled away- apparently he was the town drunk and often does this.

Another time I saw a man laying at a weird angle under a tree by the central islip train station, not moving.

Another time I was somewhere in sayville and saw a man collapse near the bus stop. no one at the stop (there were a few people waiting) even glanced at him. I called 911 just to be safe, although he was likely intoxicated.

My sister teases me because I'm so worried about strangers.

But, better to be safe than sorry. Chat Icon
