honestly--i don't understand the concept these days of bringing kids to just about EVERYTHING.
when i was a kid---my parents just didn't take us with them every time they had an event to go to. if there was a shower, party, wedding, etc.--either they'd get a babysitter or my mom would politely decline if she couldn't find anyone. case closed. that was just the way it was when i was growing up---other parents in our family and neighborhood did the same thing.
Same here. I missed out on a lot of family stuff when I was a toddler, b/c that was around the age when many of my cousins were getting married; having babies; buying houses....some things are just not for kids.
Recently, DH & I were invited to a shower that was a mini-wedding. There were 250 people, a DJ, Photog....the works. DS was only 5 weeks old. The bride wigged when I declined and stayed home with DS. I explained that he was too young to be around all those people and all that noise.
Ironically, her 3-year-old niece made a big fuss, smashed her hand into the cake, bothered the DJ all night and kept stealing the balloon centerpieces (which also had flowers and candles ). It was a disaster. She is all over the video throwing tantrums and doing awful things to make herself the center of attention. There is even one point where the bride's BFF had to dive across the crowd to stop her niece from dropping a Lenox cake topper that was received as a gift.
