Maternity Leave
I was just wondering about something. I plan on going on ML in August. Does your company incorporate vacation days that have not been taken into your ML?? I have 3 weeks vacation. One week I plan on taking in Dec around the holidays. The other two I am taking in June for an OOS Wedding. Do you know if it would be okay If I take those 2 weeks prior to my maternity leave, or do you think that my HR dept will tell me that since I am going on ML, I cant take two weeks off?
Does that make sense?
I know that its different with every company , but I figured I would ask you ladies first just to see what your company policy is. I haven't yet told my boss that I am preggo, so I dont want to ask my HR dept this question just yet.
Thanks.

Re: Maternity Leave
It is very different between companies. Legally, you are entitled to 12 weeks of FMLA which runs concurrent with disability and/or starts your first day out.
At my company I get 6 weeks full pay (vaginal) and 8 weeks full pay (c-secttion) and any time after that on STD I get 66 2/3 pay. After that I can tap on vacation.
At my company, you can tap on your vacation when your FMLA ends.
I do suggest that rather than guessing and worrying - contact HR. It's completely confidential. It will ease your mind and help you plan better.

Re: Maternity Leave
It depends on the Company
I get 3 weeks paid right from the start (a gift from the Company) Then I have to use all my personal/sick time. Then I have the choice to use some or all of my vacation, then I have short term disability through my Company

Re: Maternity Leave
I think it's perfectly reasonable to ask HR. Every company policy is different- but I kknow my company would approve of vacation in front of maternity.

Re: Maternity Leave
I'm really lucky. My company offers 12 weeks full pay, then if I want additional I can add on any accrued sick days, then personal days, then vacation days.
I'm hoping with everything tacked on, I will have a full 4 months of paid leave!

Re: Maternity Leave
I have NO paid maternity leave. My job requires that you use all but 10 days of accrued time concurrently with FMLA. For me that worked out to 10 weeks at full pay and two weeks at zero pay.

Re: Maternity Leave
I get 3 weeks vacation a year but I accrue 9.375 hours a month. So by the time my due date rolls around I will only have accrued 9 days . My company pays 6 weeks maternity leave and the first week I have to use either vacation or personal days until the paperwork goes through. I have been told by HR that when on maternity leave I will stop accrueing days so I will never see my full 3 weeks.

Re: Maternity Leave
My company would approve it, but it would be less time that I could tack onto the end of my maternity leave for paid time off.
