Spinoff to Day Off: Let's Not Forget What This Day is About!
I just want to say that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has always been one of my heroes. I think he was an amazing man - beyond courageous and brave and had a lot more intelligence, vision, and love in him than many people have today, even almost 40 years after his death.

He is one of my favorite people to teach my class about. It's embarassing how passionate I get when I tell them about him. He and RFK could have changed so much more...

He was a inspirational Dr. martin luther king Jr, I agree this man had so much courage, a good heart, love to go around. he was a man who was fighting for peace and I think more people should be like him. A tost to martin luther king and may he rest in peace...

I was thinking about this.
Memorial Day, President's Day, Veterna's Day, 4th of July- for many of us they are just an extra day off from work. But they really are days that we SHOULD remember those whose vision and sacrafice allow us to live the lives of luxury and freedom that we do today. And you may not think yout life is luxurious, but there are plenty of people in the world who find the plentiful availablility of food, running water and electricity luxury.

I still remember learning about him in school and my teacher started the lesson off:
"We are off on Monday and He is the reason why..."
The lesson began, followed by a filmstrip/movie.
Last year DS was born on MLK Day. So, I think about that as well. Even more DS was born on MLKs true Birthday. (Jan. 15th).

It is so sad that he died so youg. I sometimes think of all he cou;d have accomplised is if he had not been assassinated!
If you read of listen to "I have a dream" it's really an amzing speech and so moving. I hope those dreams can happen someday!
I'm a social studies teacher and always play that speech for my kids!

i went to Wash DC today to the Holocaust museum, lincoln memorial and vietnam memorial w/ a 120 person interfaith group of children and adults from my community

I was THRILLED two years ago when this was the quote on the English regents. It seemed incredibly appropriate. (Of course, every single kid wrote about Atticus Finch.)
