IUI w/out clomid
anyone have any success getting pregnant w/ IUI alone..... NO Clomid etc? I am such a freak about taking meds (and their side effects)... I would love to try IUI and no drugs... any successes?
TIA
or anyone's dr allow this? it seems my doc only does a combo of IUI and clomid right off tha bat.

Re: IUI w/out clomid
Well, the fact is that IUI does not really increase your chances very much over timed intercourse. They give clomid because it can make the quality of your eggs better. If you are against using meds though, I'd tell your doctor your wishes. If your doctor doesn't respect the course of treatment you are comfortable with, I'd have a problem with that.

Re: IUI w/out clomid
I think Bxgell2 is planning to do this - her issue seems to be hostile cervical mucus which IUI bypasses.

YES! I've gone through the battery of tests - HSG, bloodwork, MRI, post-coitals, sperm analysis, everything. What it all shows is that our primary impediment is hostile mucous. Our RE recommends IUI to bypass the issue and put DH's little men right into my cervix.
I have no issues with my cycle otherwise, no problems with ovulation, so we're going to try our first cycle of IUI next month, naturally. My RE said we could take Clomid to "up our chances" by giving DH's spermies more targets but I want to start out as au natural as possible, and go from there.

Re: IUI w/out clomid
I have unexplained infertility so I ovulate on my own. My RE was going to put me on Clomid right away, but I was reluctant to take medication without trying IUI alone first to see if that would work. I suggested this to my RE and she was fine with that approach. I did 2 unmedicated IUIs and they didn't work so now I'm taking Clomid.

me 2 - unexplained infertility. i plan on following the same steps as u. at least u tried the way you wanted 1st. and u know u gave it your all before starting the meds. did u start clomid yet? what dr do u go to that allowed non clomid iui? (if in nassau county) i know my doc follows a specific protocol and rarely is flexible.

Re: IUI w/out clomid
I see Dr. Chu at North Shore. I've been really happy with her so far. She is very good about taking the time to explain everything and listening to my concerns.
I already did one cycle with Clomid and IUI, which didn't work. I didn't really have any side effects from the Clomid except for hot flashes which weren't that bad. I had a cyst before I was going to start my second cycle so I had to hold off on the Clomid until next month. In the meantime I did an unmedicated IUI this cycle.
