DH did a 180 on me
Mr. I'm overly hesitant to even think about IUI cornered me in the kitchen tonight and said "he's ready". Meaning, he wants to jump right in next cycle
So, the wimp in me has to ask - what exactly does IUI involve? If I do a natural IUI cycle does that involve ANY kind of injections? If I do Clomid, does THAT involve injections? What can I expect?

Re: DH did a 180 on me
Comid is a pill you take for 5 days - in the beginning of your cycle. Injectibles, like Gonal-F, are taken from about CD3 until you are ready to trigger (another injectible - like Ovidrel).
I think at the very least you would have to do a trigger before you have an IUI to make sure the timing of the IUI is right.
The injectibles mentioned above are all subcutaneous - just under the skin - and are very easy to administer.
Hope that helps!

what she said! I did my first IUI in Dec w/ gonal-f injections and an ovidrel trigger. before that i tried 3 months of clomid and didn't produce any follicles which is why they had me go the gonal-f route in Dec. and that gave me follicles. An IUI is a piece of cake (ESPECIALLY if it didn't involve all of the injections). It's over w/in 5 mins from when they actually start and my RE had me rest for about 10 mins and then DH and I went home.

Re: DH did a 180 on me
Clomid is a cinch. The first month I took it I had a mild headache that was 50 mg. I am now up to 100 and feel no side effects. I develop 3-4 follies per month on clomid and my after O progesterone is usually 25 or above...nice for those of us that have the low progesterone to deal with. I got pregnant after 1 cycle on Clomid but it was ectopic. IT is IMO painless. I haven't done IUI but am trying my first this cycle, probably Mon or Tues..

Re: DH did a 180 on me
If you ovulate on your own, you might not need to do any meds. We have male factor so since I didn't have any isses we did 2 natural cycles. You just monitor your surge and call when you dectect it. IMO, it's a good way to get used to seeing an RE and hopefully it's all you need
**I have a friend who had hostile CM and got PG on her first IUI so there is a lot of hope for you

Good luck! As the other posters said IUI is a piece of cake, it's pretty much like a pap. It is a very quick and painless procedure.

Re: DH did a 180 on me
If you do a natural cycle, there are no injections involved. Even with Clomid, you do not necessarily need injections. My first 2 IUI's were Clomid alone no injections. My final 3 IUI's were with the hcg trigger. Honestly, I'm the worst when it comes to this stuff and the injection was no big deal. The IUI itself, is a piece of cake. The most uncomfortable part for me is the speculum. It's faster and easier than a PAP IMO.

Re: DH did a 180 on me
Thanks everyone!! After reading your responses and doing some thinking, I've decided to start with just a natural IUI and see where it takes me. I have no issues with ovulation, and it appears the only issue I have really is hostile CM so I'm hoping that a natural IUI is all we really need.
I don't know why, I'm just so nervous about the whole thing - I'm still waiting for AF to come, so once it does, I'm putting a call into my RE to tell her that we're ready!
