has anyone ever had their cat de-clawed?
i had my cat declawed two months ago (no flaming please) and he healed very nicely but on occasion when he is sitting he will hold up one of his paws.
i've brought him to the vet to get it checked out and there was nothing wrong with either paw - they have both healed completely.
anyone ever have this experience? he doesn't seem to be in pain, he runs and jumps just like he used to, i just find it strange

I don't know. I honestly thought most vets didn't even do this anymore. Maybe he is feeling some kind of phantom pain, like people with amputated limbs feel?

Maybe one thing has nothing to do w/ the other ......... - ?? Or does she do it at times when her claws would normally come out if she had them ?? -
(Is that an instinctual thing ?? I don't know anything about cats)

Yes, that is true, and one of the reasons declawing is considered to be cruel.
I know you asked not to be flamed but quite frankly, I can't think of another word to use that accurately describes it.
This is an article written by a vet regarding declawing where they mention the possibility of phantom pain. http://www.nickerstickers.com/articles/declawing.htm

thank you all, i appreciate the input. he never does it when he would normally use his claws, just when he is sitting normally. i can understand the possibility of phantom pain, hopefully it will go away eventually.
i understand that a lot of people consider it cruel, but believe me, i researched both sides of the "story" and made an informed decision.

Re: has anyone ever had their cat de-clawed?
my cat is declawed (hated doing it--but DH refused to let me bring the cat to our apt when we were married--unless he was declawed...since he hates cats with a passion--this was our only compromise)
i don't remember him doing that---he's been declawed for almost a year -- but he does still stretch and "scratch" on furniture a lot. (he scratched a LOT before the declawing)

I have heard of the "phantom pain" also. None of our cats had this, but I would imagine it's very real. It's a hard decision on weither or not to do it. I originaly had Daisy sched for both being spayed and declawed, but decided not to. Now i'm not becasue she does well with her claws. I just keep up to date on clipping them. I do know that the cats we've had before took some time to adjust, but did fine in the long run. As long as it's healed well and you cats acting normal it should be ok. Good Luck

I have a cat who has NOT been declawed, and does it all the time. I just chalk it up to one of her "things." She has many quirks.

Re: has anyone ever had their cat de-clawed?
I won't declaw my cat, but from what I read I think they remove what would be equivalent to the tips of the bones on our fingers, so maybe like everyone else said it is like a phantom pain similar to what an amputee would feel. I am really not sure.
