Progesterone

Why is this test done? I had my progesterone test done yesterday morning, 1 week after my IUI as planned.
Dr called me this morning to tell me that they like to see over 12 and mine was 42 and that's a good sign. So, what's the significance? Anything pertaining to actually being pregnant? I have some more homework to do.

just that you wont need progresterone supplements in the luteal phase

Progesterone is essential for healthy implantation of the embryo and to sustain the embryo/fetus until the placenta takes over at about 10-12 weeks.
If the progesterone is too low either the embryo won't implant or one could miscarry. Progesterone keeps the endometrial lining nice and thick.

I have researched the he!! out of this and the answer to your question is no-however you can probably start testing in about 3 days at home.

42 is a fabulous #!!!! I had a # of 22 at 9 days past ovulation. When the Dr called to tell me that number, she said be prepared for BFP...and 3 days later I got one. DS just turned 1 year!
