Jersey People...

quick question for you:

Is it your opinion that New Jersey is a toxic place to live?? Chat Icon

i mean, there are toxins all around us, everywhere, everyday, but to refer to Jersey as toxic....would you say that's an accurate assessment??

Re: Jersey People...

Where the cities are- Jersey City & Newark- it's pretty toxic- there' s a lot of industry there- they are doing their best to clean it up, but there's a lot of crap there. YOu also have to understand that almost all goods New Yorkers use from China come into Newark- so there's a lot of pollution resulting from it too.

However- there are plenty of places in NJ that are super nice- and cleaner than LI....

I said that Jersey girls would agree with my statement.

I didn't say anything about "partly agreeing" or any of the sort. I just said that it would come out of their mouth.

Face it... what Sassy said... even though it was not a complete admission... was NOT what you wanted to hear. Chat Icon

Re: Jersey People...

Well- as much as I now live in Jersey-- I don't consider myself a Jersey person.. I grew up on LI and lived in Manhattan for the past 8 years after college...

But- I will say this- Jersey def has a lot of manufacturing facilities are there are areas that are definitely toxic.. But on the other hand-- Jersey is like the richest state in the country-- there are some beautiful areas that are definitely no where near toxic.

I think Jersey has a bad rep- and I am one of the first to joke about it-- but, I really don't think the state is any different than anyone else-- It's like saying everyone from NY is rude.

Re: Jersey People...

I grew up in Princeton which is one of (IMO) the nicest, cleanest, richest areas of NJ, and it certainly isn't toxic. There are areas around the dumps that (literally) stink, but many areas of NY are closer to those than areas of NJ.

Re: Jersey People...

If you look at the EPA website, NJ as a whole has more Superfund sites than NY, but Nassau and Suffolk counties have a lot more sites than many other counties in the state. So, I am not sure that New Jersey is more toxic than LI - but their problem areas may be more visible than ours.

Once you get close to NY and LI, it gets really gross. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would bet the most toxic area is the water under the Outer Bridge connecting NJ and Staten IslandChat Icon

Re: Jersey People...

I just saw this post....

What Dina said......there are a bunch of toxic / industrial / gross places in northern NJ....

but you wouldn't believe the amount of wooded areas and beautiful neighborhoods there are! NJ gets a bad rap from what people see driving on the turnpike and GSP. In reality it's very nice!

I think because those places are so condensed, it's overwhelming. And when you drive down the Turnpike, it's kind of gross looking. I think that's the only view a lot of people have of NJ, but the parts I've visited are very nice.
