labor and dilating?

This may be a weird question but hey I am desperate for this baby to come.....do you feel when you are dilating...is it something you can tell or only when you go to the doctor? I'm still four weeks from my due date but everyone, including doctors said I wil lgo early. Have an appointment today and am parying to the Gods something is going on, I really ,really, really can't take much more.

A few times i have had the sensation of a knife being thrusted in me, sorry if TMI, it only lasts a second or so.

I told my doctor and he said it is a sign of dilation.

Last week I was 1 cm, I go back today, cant wait to see if there is any progress!

Re: labor and dilating?

You can't really feel dilating. And as far as the Dr. telling you that you will go early, don't convince yourself of it. I did and I mentally moved my due date back two weeks. Well those two weeks came and went and I was so frustrated. I wound up being induced 6 days after my original due date.

hmmm, I definitely have had pains so maybe it could be something, gives me a glimmer of hope anyway...LOL!! I'm more than likley going to end up with a c-section within the next two weeks or so unless I go naturally sooner as I have a heap of issues that the doctors are very concerned with. I'm so trying to avoid that by going naturally early... I guess I'm just using some wishful thinknig...heck if it works, I'll take it!

i don't think you can tell if you're dilating unless the doctor checks. i was 1cm dilated at 37 weeks was having some contractions and the doctor told me i would probably have the baby that day. well, my DS was 10 days late so I stayed that way for over a month! Chat Icon
