I have to get my doctor to see if I can donate my organs. I'm not allowed to donate blood in the US b/c I lived in the UK in the early 80's so apparantly I may be a carrier of Mad Cow Disease.

I'm on it as well.
I have my license signed but also signed up to be on the list at the DMV. The lady there said I'm all set - now, all I have to do is die.

Yes i am....I also have a little card (slip of paper) that was sent to me to keep in my wallet.
DH doesn't like this idea. SO I made sure I was on the list!

Please talk to your families regarding your wishes!!!! Even though you're on the registry, the Organ Retrieval Team MUST MUST MUST get permission from a family member before taking your organs REGARDLESS of your written wishes!!!!!! It's a law!!!!!
Sign your license
Let a family member know what your wishes are EXTENSIVELY. It's a tough topic to discuss but a necessary one

Sign up anyway they won't take them if they can't use them and trust me thorough testing is done before they take anyone's organs.

Exactly and make sure you have a health care proxy that will honor your wishes. You can have DONATE MY ORGANS!! tattooed across your forehead but if your health care proxy or next of kin doesn't want to give permission they can't take anything.

I'm not on the list, but every member of my family knows my wishes when I pass if possible is to donate all organs that can be used.
ETA: My Mom was only able to donate her eyes, but both retnas were used. To think my Mom helped two seperate people see better. What a blessing to know.

I signed up for the list about 10 years ago. I had sruvived a very bad car accidnet and I realized that if I had died some people could have gotten some good use ouf of my organs.
