Well this is confusing...
Via the PetCo Website I came across this "AlmosthomeLI.org" that I thought was a shelter... but it has a PO box and no hours listed. It is a "no kill" organization.
Here is where it gets weird.
There are animals on their website that I saw last week in a Municipal shelter.
Don't municipal shelters euthanize animals? Do rescues store pets at municipal shelters? If a pet is around too long, do the "no kill" places send them to "kill" places?
It seems shady to me, but maybe I don't understand what rescues are?
I saw this cat just last week in a town shelter (with a terrible eye infection), but she is on Almosthome's website.
Poor thing...

Re: Well this is confusing...
Sometimes no kill shelters will take dogs from kill shelters. We got Porter from Little shelter, who is a no kill and they took him from Hempstead shelter, who was going to euthanize him at 4 months old because he is a pit mix and nobody was looking at him. They also rescued a pitbull, Paige, from hempstead who was going to be put down at 3 months old for being a pit, and DH and i were lookign for another dog and our best friend came with us. We found Paige & Porter who came from hempstead and were cagemates at Little Shelter, We got Porter, my best friend called her DH and then got Paige. So they are both still best friends.

Yeah - but this is the opposite of what you are explaining.
They started out at a "no kill" and they are now with the town.
I called Almosthome, and they told me she was adopted.
It just seems fishy.
