Few Q's for those who had siding done
We got a few quotes so far and 2 of them are about 4K-5K less than another. The last one was very high and the guy was talking about how they use the best quality insulation that has an R factor that is much much higher than most. Also...he said he uses only his own people, not day laborers - they're insured, quality is better, etc. He just made it sound like anyone who charges less uses day laborers. Additionally, he said that a lot of other companies drag out the job, want money up front, just to name a few things. They dont take money till the job is done and you are happy.
So my questions are:
Did anyone research the R factor of insulation?
Did you ask about day laborer use when you hired and/or did it make a difference to you?
He said if someone has an accident on your job, they can sue you. Wouldn't they sue the siding company instead? Day laborer or not, can they really sue you if they are at fault when hired for your job?
Lastly, did you pay up front? Did your job go smooth.
We are still getting quotes and the first 2 siding companies said nothing about the stuff this guy talked about. Obviously, he wants to business so I know why he's saying it, just wondering about it all.
Thanks so much. 4-5K difference is so big, it's seriously an issue I'd like to straighten out.

I wouldn't trust this guy. Any salesman who has to bad mouth other companies is no good IMO. The insulation they use is thin. Just make sure your walls have quality insulation.
We got new siding this winter and don't remember insulation being a selling point.
We paid half upfront and half when the job was done. The job went pretty smoothly.
I'm not sure about the legalities of using day laborers. I would think your homeowner's insurance would cover anyone doing work on your home who gets hurt.
Good luck!

That's sort of what I said to DH. I also asked him, like I asked others, for adresses of other houses they did so we can look at the work. He gave me a few and then called me back with one he did recently right down the road. When he did he said, "it's near the green house with the stacked stone". I said, "I know that house, I love it." And he said "Yes, I don't usually see work of other people that I can honestly compliment but that looks nicely done" I thought it was pretty obnoxious.
DH is already out on the guy, purely on price. I just was curious about the insulation issue he talked about. We have all new interior walls with new insulation so we're good there.
Thanks so much for the response.
