VBAC

I would like to hear any and all VBAC stories. I am reading Silent Knife by Nancy Wainer Cohen & Lois J. Estner. The book is great. I had a section in Jan of this year and I am 11 weeks pregnant now. I would like to try a VBAC. I am trying to find a good midwife now that will carry out my wishes. Can anyone relate?

Re: VBAC

I had a section last November and I am due in April (16 months apart).

I am on the fence about a VBAC but I am leaning towards another section for various reasons.

I think their is a great group of midwives at Stonybrook that are supportive of VBACs.

Re: VBAC

I really wanted to try VBAC this past May with my second DD, but it wasn't in the cards. My doctors were supportive; however, there were a couple of guidelines. First, I couldn't go past 1 week overdue; secondly, I couldn't be induced. I think there was some miscommunication--we were to have scheduled the repeat c/s for 1 week past my due date, but instead it got scheduled ON the due date. Ultimately, I was too nervous to "tempt fate" (as backwards as that sounds) and change the date. So, DD was born on May 8 and overall, it was a much better experience than my 1st even though I wanted to avoid surgery.

I hope your wish comes true!!

Here's a question......

Why do women go to midwives after having a VBAC? is it b/c Dr's refuse to do it?

I don't have experience with this but my SIL has a C section with her first child and had a succesfull VBAC with the second...no issues what so ever. She didn't have a midwife...just a regular OB

Re: VBAC

I had a VBAC. I had a very postive experience. I'm so glad I did. My doctor was a very big advocate and encouraged me to try. The reason for my c-section was due to my DS big head so there were no other medical reasons keeping me from having a VBAC as long as the babies size was ok. He watched the size of the baby close at the end. I was at my due date and I was about 3 cm and effaced and they induced me.

I didn't have a bad experience with my c-section so I was fine if I had to do another one. Once I had the VBAC it was a very different recovery. I just felt so much better and quicker than the c-section. I'm so so glad my dr encouraged me. If you have any other questions you can pm me.

Re: VBAC

I had a successful VBAC in May 2006 with my DD. I had a c/s in May 2004 with my son because he was breech. I have an OB, not a midwife and he was 1000x supportive of my decision.

Like a pp stated, there were a few conditions I had to meet: I had to go into labor on my own and my OB wouldn't let me go beyond 1 week late. After 1 week late, I would have had to have a repeat c/s. I could not be induced either, and I could not have a version to turn the baby (she was breech for 36 weeks before finally flipping).

My doc said my 2 year time frame was fine between my c/s and VBAC. He said he likes to see at least 18 months between births...

I had no issues at all and consider it one of the best things I pushed for and was very happy with the outcome.

Re: VBAC

I wanted a VBAC this time, but my Dr said no because of Uterin rupture...Chat Icon I then said ok, another c-section it is, I don't want to take that change of me bleeding to death.

Re: VBAC

One of the reasons I am most likely opting for a c-section is that there is only 16 months between my babies and the literature I have read suggests at least 18 months- like a pp said above.

Re: VBAC

Thank you for all your replies. I met with an OB Doc. yesterday who was very supportive of what I want. It is really nice to talk about this sort of thing with other women out there. DH does the best he can but sometime I need to talk to women who understand what I am going through.

My good friends mom told me that she had a c-section with her son and 15 months later she had a VBAC with her twins.
