HELP/ADIVCE...Please explain this to me!!!
Hi,
Ok...so I am going to start my IVF cycle soon. I've been waiting since August and I cannot believe the time is almost here. I am waiting to be put on my DH's insurance come January 1st, but can start at the end of December with meds and all since my insurance covers that.
If I am remembering correctly (I went for my IVF consult at East Coast in August) that I call the office when my December period comes (they knew I was waiting for this month). I was given a prescription to start BC pills FIRST. Would I use them then when my November period comes...due Nov 26 or when my December period comes? I believe they said December period since I want to procedure to fall after January 1st for insurance purposes. But...if I am put on the pill to regulate me then how can I get pregnant from IVF if I am on the pill? So I am confused!! Do I use the BC pill during my November cycle or December? Can you be on the pill at same time u start your injections, etc? I am so confused, I thought BC pills prevent pregnancy from happening.
PLEASE explain..
Thanks, Keri

Ok, take this with a grain of salt since I've never done IVF but I think you would take the bcp for your december cycle. The BCP is usually (?) taken in conjunction with Lupron for your suppression phase. My friend just did it twice (now she is pg!) and did bcp for 3 weeks, then added lupron for a little while before starting stims. I think that after your Nov. AF you would start them, then end up stimming in January for a mid january retrieval/transfer.
By the way...I may be doing it with you! We are trying two more IUI/injectible cycles and then moving to IVF in January. Best of luck...

Re: HELP/ADIVCE...Please explain this to me!!!
They are going to have you take BCP for three weeks after your cycle begins (you will start taking the pills on CD3). This is to suppress your system and make sure that no follicles grow. Then they will have you do stimulant injections for about ten days to make the follies grow. Retrieval will be when the follicles are just about mature. So, you will call them when your December cycle starts if you want the retrieval to be after January 1st. If you start BCP with your November cycle, your retrieval will be around the end of December - which you don't want.

I agree with the other posters, just check if they want you on Lupron, too. Good luck!

Re: HELP/ADIVCE...Please explain this to me!!!
Humm..ok. I am understanding what everyone is saying. However, AF isn't due until November 26th (not now) (and sometimes I am a bit late which may even bring me to my next AF being in the beginning of December. With this being said, should I still wait until the December period to begin which can be anywhere from December 26th or beyond or since my November AF isn't going to come until AT LEAST Nov 26 should I start the BCP with this one and if so would my retrieveal/transfer still be after January 1st which would make it fine since I am waiting for the new year for my benifits.
It's all about timing for me now. I am so eager to get started and waiting for the benifits. My own insurance covers all the drugs, blood, sonos, etc. I just don't want to waste another month if I dont have to.
THANKS

Exactly what Gerty said is what they did for me. I think I was on the pill for only 2 weeks. Then strated the Lupron, and went from there.
