How do you know?
How do you know if your baby is OK on the formula they are on -- or if it needs to be changed?
Emily has been spitting up a tiny bit more. I can't complain -- it's nothing like those of you who have reflux babies -- but she seems to be gassy -- having a hard time burping and then when she does there is a little bit of spit up.
And I just feel like she's never happy! She used to sleep a lot and now she's pretty much awake ALL day long -- and isn't happy unless she's being held or eating! I feel like we're feeding her all the time and I don't know if we're over-doing it. I know some formulas help with fussy babies -- but I don't know if that's what she needs or if she's just going through a rough few days or something.

Re: How do you know?
When Ryan started getting mostly formula (and like only 2-3 BM bottles a day) I noticed he would spit up time to time.. (mostly when I dont get good burps outta him)
At first he was on similac advance w/ iron..then I notice he would cry every hour at first I would just feed him... but noticed although he would eat what was offered it wasnt really solving the probelm... I tried milicon drops thinking it was gas, and they did nothing..so I figured it wasnt gas..
I ended up calling the DR and he said he thought it was gas, to try any soy formula (he suggested simialac isomil...) and since then- no problems..
Maybe those days were a fluke thing...maybe it was gas...but now we are on isomil soy and everythings just fine... (we do spit up sometimes still...when I asked the DR he said.. "ya know marissa baby's do spit up." lol

Okay -- that sounds just like Emily! She's like a never ending pit with the food and always fussy and we'll try feeding her and she eats but it doesn't really help at all.
I don't know if it's just a "fussy" phase or if I should switch -- or if I should just try a new formula or call the DR first! My friend has a new can of prosobee that she said she can give me but I don't know if I should try it or not!

Re: How do you know?
You can call the DR first but its not necessary-however if you switch I would tell him next time u go...
Try the soy- my friend had a similar problem- and the soy helped her so much too!
ETA- Ryan is still not a good burper- and does pass gas- but hes not uncomfortable at all!

Re: How do you know?
Emily also wakes herself up if she farts or poops in her sleep -- and it causes her to cry. Depending on how bad it is she'll fall back esleep or she'll wake up crying. I just think that shouldn't be. She isn't constipated -- her BMs are loose enough -- but I just don't think it should cause her discomfort and it does.
I'm thinking of calling the doc on Monday and asking them if I should do it and which formula they'd recommend. I don't know if I should go with Enfamil lactofree, prosobee, Gentleease, or something else.

Re: How do you know?
projectile vomitting or blood in the stool usually indicate allergies when it comes to formula. Sometimes its literally a pindrop of blood.
