my side of the family is huge. dh's not so much, so he gets the short end of the stick LOL....we spend more money on my side (just by the fact that there are more people to buy for)
for some people I'll make baked goods (cookies, brownies, cheesecake) and give it to them on a decorative plate/bowl what have you. It's nice and it's not expensive.
I personally don't receive many Christmas gifts...definitely not as much as we give...but it's all good.

With the Chinese side of the family, we give "lai see" to the children. Basically, it is a red envelope with money in it. All married couples are required to give it to the unmarried people. We were doing it before we were married because it is hard to buy gifts for cousins that you only see once a year and then tote those gifts to NY from Texas. We also give a small gift to aunts and uncles. Plus a special gift to grandma. She is old but she knows when she doesn't get a gift.
For my side of the family, we give gifts to all of my brothers and SIL's. Plus my mom and now my adorable nephew. Sometimes we receive gifts in return and sometimes we don't. Either way, I love Christmas and I love buying something special for my loved ones.
