St. Christophers in Baldwin, anyone a member?
This seems to be the closest parish to our new home - Anyone a member there or have any thoughts on it -- or any other RC churches that might be in the Baldwin / RVC area?

Re: St. Christophers in Baldwin, anyone a member?
Hi Kara :)
I grew up in Baldwin and went there. My parents are still active parishoners there and I got married there in February....
It's a large parish.... but like many parishes i think it struggles with having young people be involved. besides the parents of children in the school, i found that young couples or singles, are not active. it seems to be the two extremes: the elderly/those that are retired and the young families.
they have several active ministries (Choir, St. Vincent de Paul, an adult prayer group, Mom and Tots, etc.) and the school is very large. (K-8) there is a parish feast every summer for 4 nights that really brings everyone together.
there is a fairly new pastor, Fr. Steve. Fiscally he is realyl turning the place around as the parish has some financial issue.... large school, old buildings, etc. Fr. Brian is a young priest there... i really like him a lot and he worked with DH and I as we prepared to get married.
St. Chris is a nice place and i think if people are very welcoming. it's a diverse parish ethnicalyl and i like that... it's not just the irish and itallians anymore.. .there are many Caribbean and Indian Catholics there now.
I also sing at St. Agnes in RVC... since they are the cathedral, they have a lot of offerings that smaller churches do not have. I dont' find the people at St. Agnes as friendly though.. i went to the grammar school there and so many of them were rich snobs.... now, i don't think that it is as bad, but definitely prevalent.
Feel Free to FM...

My aunt and uncle live several blocks from there and go there. My 2 cousins were married there. I think its a very nice church, but I can't tell you much about the parishioners. I lived in RVC for a few years, was a member of St. Agnes and got married there. I loved it there.

Beautiful church, I grew up in Baldwin right around the corner from there. I've been to mass there several times and always enjoyed the mass.
Although I go to St. Anthony's in Oceanside, which is very nice as well...and close to Baldwin.
