Made my appt

They are going to take me in 3 weeks.

They said they take at 8 weeks because that is when you can hear the heartbeat.

I am just waiting for a return call from the girl who does all the scheduling to confirm the date and time.

I am soooooooo nervous. I cant wait to hear the heartbeat.

What can I expect at my first appt?

Did your DH go with you to your first one?

Hey, so glad you made your appt. You should expect a PAP, blood work if they draw it from their office or they may schedule another appt for your blood work. My doctor doesn't draw blood from her office so I was sent to a local lab. They also did a sono on my first visit but being it's too early in my pregnancy the baby looked like a sac.

I wanted to add, yes my DH came with me to my first appt.

We are also scheduled to go back Oct. 18th to listen to the baby's heart beat. She also said by that time your baby will look like a baby in the sono...can't wait to live in that moment!!!

I can barely remember my first appointment..

I got weighed, I guess I got a pap, the doctor looked and told me 'everything looked as it should', I got weighed and they took lots and lots of blood.

DH didn't come with me, but I knew I wasn't having a sonogram and I didn't get to hear the heartbeat. I was 12 weeks the first time I had a sonogram and the first time they listened for the heartbeat.

Hey Mel!

Dh went for the first visit, although I think he wishes he didn't I had a pap at that visit and they took 9 vials of blood. I don't know which one was worse for him. I was fine. Just bring some juice and crackers in case you get woozie after the blood being drawn. They also used the doppler to hear the heartbeat. I did not have an in-office sono until 12 weeks.

I am all set for Monday Oct 29 at 10am

I asked the girl how long it woudl take just so I can let my boss know how long I'll be gone and the girl told me that all that is going to be done is a urine test to confirm the pregnancy and a sono to confirm the size and an EDD.

From that I am guessing blood work will be done from a lab.

9 viles of blood. OMG I am going to need lots of crackers and juice because I dont give blood very well

How exciting!

The first appointment is pretty easy. They do an internal exam...which means putting a condom on a phallic looking wand and taking a closer look from the inside. If your husband is there, make sure he stands closer to your head for that one! Tom made the mistake of hanging out around my feet and he's been scarred ever since!

I had to go to a lab for my blood work as well. My first sono which was at 8 weeks as well I didn't need to do an internal, it was cool because by then I could see the heart beating!

They will probably do the usual, urine, blood pressure, how are you feeling, this is what to expect the next few weeks, I asked for a timeline as to when I had to get bloodwork done, when I would have sonos etc.

If you are having a sono definitely bring your DH.
