What are my rights..

.. with regards to obtaining records about myself from a previous doctor / nutritionist / therapist?

has anyone ever done this before?

you have every right to get your records but most offices make you pay for them to make the copies of the records

I worked for Doctors offices. You have every right to get your records, but after 7 years they are not responsible for them. They only have to hold on to them for 7 years. They may require you to go in person and request them, b/c of HIPPA, they have to make sure its you and not someone saying there you.

Depends on the doctor.

Some doctors made me sign a release and didn't charge for the copies. Others made me pay cash only for copies to be made no signed release required.

Just give the doctor a call and ask them what their procedure is.

you are entitled to a copy of your records......most will just give it to you... however, some offices will charge up to 75 cents per page....and ther are allowed to by law.... I don't know if that includes therapist/psycologists records ...........HTH
