ughh

so we are having a driveway put in at my house right now and they just started digging iup grass and junk and my neighbor starts asking the guys what they are doing and why they are measuring the way they are etc
so I go outside and ask him whats up and he said I just wanted to know what you are doing so I told him that we have the Survey and this is our prpoerty and we are putting a= in a driveway and he just stands there staring at me so I went on and said and our property line goes out 25 more feet .....(I know he thought it was his prperty because part of an ugly bush is on it) but technically thats all ours
I am so annoyed that he was like asking the workers all these questions

some people are just busybodies...but he must have known that land was yours from his own survey when he moved in...Chat Icon

Re: ughh

actually now I think I know what his problem was

a few years ago he had inground sprinklers installed and when the guys started to put them in my DH went outside and asked told them that was where our driveway was going and the worker went in to tell our neighbor but our neighbor had them installed on our property anyway
so my DH told his worker that he would have to have it ripped up when the time came and our neighbor did it anyway

so I guess now he realizes he is a big fat jacka$$ and regrets that now

If you haven't already, make sure you start documenting your conversations with him (certified, return receipt letters, etc).

Accepting your neighbor's sprinkler system on your yard can open up a whole can of worms if you don't document that the land is yours with your neighbor. Look up the term "adverse possession" - in NY, I believe it takes 10 years of using property without your documenting it's your land for your neighbor to be able to legally claim it as his land.

A guy I know has had many border disputes (he has 2+ acres). One neighbor took down a whole section of the guy's trees & landscaped it to look like his property. He's documenting the property as his land via certified letters & letters to the town. Last I heard he was planning to put up a fence on the border of the property. The fence will appear to be going through what looks like (but legally isnt) his neighbor's back yard.

Re: ughh

I have heard that before......and I think it is ridiculous that your neighbor can use your property and then it can "be" theirsChat Icon
