Well I was one of the 5 people left in the world that hadnt seen the Notebook. So I rented it last night. While I LOVED Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gossiling in it together, I just didnt see the HUGE deal over it.

Yes it was a BEAUTIFL movie.

Yes it was a very nice love story.

And yes it was sad.

BUt i wasnt bawling, I kind of knew what the ending was going to be. But I didnt cry like other people said they did. To me, Steel Magnolias was 100 times more sad. While the story was definately beautiful, I just didnt see the hype about it. Am I the only one?

I never really cried when I watched The Notebook, but I always BAWL when watching Steal Magnolias.

I just really loved the story line of the Notebook, that's why I liked it so much.

I didn't care for The Notebook. The ending didn't surprise me and I thought it was a bit too sappy. When I told people that I saw it, they would respond, "OMG! Weren't you crying for days? I couldn't believe that at the end blah blah blah" I thought that maybe I was a heartless b**ch because I wasn't reacting the way everyone else was.

Maybe some of the movies and shows that make me cry don't have the same effect on my friends. I always cry when I watch Terms of Endearment. (It usually kicks in when she starts to put her makeup on in the hospital.Chat Icon )

-Don't even get me started about the series finale of Six Feet Under! Now THAT had me crying for days. I was not myself for 2 days after I saw it. I think it was because I invested 5 years to the show and I got to really "know" each character.

I read the book first, I liked the book but I wasn't all ga-ga over the love story. Then I watched the movie and was actually a bit disappointed. I didn't bawl and normally, during sappy chick-flicks I do, so I guess I really didn't get the hype either.

ITA.. good movie but it wasn't a big tear jerker for me. I cried more watchng Steel Magnolias (one of my faves). Bridges of Madison County (another fave) made me bawl too...still does.

i haven't seen the movie yet, but i did read the book and didn't see all the hype, his books are all extremely predictable and a bit too sappy, i still read them and enjoy them but they are a bit much

I saw the movie and it was no big deal. My SIL and MIL act like it is one of the greatest love stories ever. They couldn't believe that I didn't cry and were even more shocked when I told them that it was boring...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Steel Magnolia's had me bawling the first time I saw it. That scene where Sally Fields breaks down at her daughter's funeral is so sad. I love that movie. I don't cry much at movies but this scene made me so sad...Chat Icon

Re: Am I the only one who didnt see the HUGE hype about the movie The Notebook?

I have to say I cried like a baby the first time I saw the Notebook, because while it is sappy, stuff like that really happens. You hear of couples, where one dies and then the other quickly follows. Maybe not as dramatic as in the movie, but it still happens.

I guess I got so upset, because I hope that in the end, my love for my DH will be just as strong, if not stronger, than it is now. The way it is in the movie. If that makes any sense.

I felt the same way. I'm usually a sucker for sappy love stories, but I was bored by this movie.

I thought it was 'eh.' I liked the actors, but I could really take it or leave it.
