Long shot, but is anyone familiar with UNIX and SSH security?

We just upgraded the emulation tool for the users (we are now using esker software...smarterm 12.1). The connection type is an SSH connection, but we do not want the users to be able to check the box to save the user id and password...we want them to key it in everytime. Does anyone know how I can disable this feature? I attached a screenprint of the login box...and you will see there is a save box with an option to check it. We have passwords expire every 90 days, so giving the user the ability to store it will only cause mass confusion when the passwords change. Please let me know....thanks.

It looks like it doesn't have anything to do with UNIX, or SSH per se. The application that is logging into the secure site is saving the password. The application doesn't care what OS is hosting the site. The manual might have some info on how to disable that. Otherwise, contact the vendor. They may be able to tell you how to disable it.

I already contacted the vendor...they gave me some long song and dance about if we disable it, a user can create a macro to store the login/password anyway...yeah, not likely the users would even know what a macro was or how to create it.

They want to charge me to figure out how to disable it because they don't know...so in order for them to research, that is billable time Chat Icon

I know it's a software issue and not necessarily UNIX, but that is the platform we are running it on.

Anyone else? Chat Icon Chat Icon

If it's a software issue, and the vendor won't help you out, I don't see how you can get around it. You're basically asking how to modify the vendor software (by making the box uncheckable). Only the vendor can modify their software.

Do you have to use that vendor's software? Is there another, similar tool you could use? Even if you don't switch, if there is a competitor, you could use that info to try and force the vendor to help you. I've done stuff like that. "Well, product XX from vendor YY has that option, and they are willing to work with us."

We use a program called SSH Secure Shell and previously I used a program called putty for all my SSH. Neither of those two would allow me to store the key. I suggest trying another product.
