DMV Questions
I am FINALLY changing my name (only a year and a half and a kid later ) tomorrow.
Do I just need my old license, my marriage certificate and a utility bill with my new address on it? Will my Geico bill work, since my LIPA bill is in my married name?
And does anyone know how much it costs to change your name?

Re: DMV Questions
download the paper work from the dmv website before hand to make your wait there shorter. I dont remember how much it cost but not that expensive...you can pay by credit card, check or cash.

Re: DMV Questions
You need to change your SS card to your new name first. Once you get that you need a bill (LIPA, Verizon, etc...) and your marriage license.

SS was the very last thing I changed!

the DMV needs your SS card now for everything- so I would change the SS card first

I just brought my marriage liscense to the DMV to get my name changed...then I went to the SS office, and they only needed the marriage liscense to do it.

I paid $15 if I remember correctly.
Make sure to change your car title as well, at the same time to save you another trip.
You just need the marriage certificate (copy is fine) and your old license.

They didn't need my SS card. I haven't chaged that yet They asked for my number on the application, but not for my card.
It took all of 10 minutes, and cost $10. I have my interim license and will get my new one in two weeks. Thank you all for your help
ETA: I did NOT need a utility bill, when I asked they told me that they do not require proof of address AND when I moved in May and I set up my utilities, I did it in my married name already.
