Anyone's OB/GYN a D.O not an MD?
On accident, I scheduled an appointment with a female ob/gyn here upstate who took over another doctor's practice upon retiring.
I looked her up online an she is listed as a D.O which I researched to be a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. The information online seems to be whole person centered and more along the lines of the labor/delivery I will eventually want.
Do any of you know someone who sees a D.O?
How is their ob/gyn practice different than an MD?
Thanks for any information you have

Is there anything different when you go see him? I'm trying to figure out why they would be called something different if they are the same?
Do DO's perscribe to a more natural birth plan?

Re: Anyone's OB/GYN a D.O not an MD?
DO's do an extra year of medical school- for osteopathic maniplultion..... basically a more hands on approach. For example, my primary care doc is a DO- I pulled my back out, instead of sending me to a chiroprator he was able to adjust/manipulate my back- over a few weeks- back to normal.
My OB has only DO's in the group- I have seen NO difference from a MD. They performed my scheduled c-section as wonderful as possible. They removed all my uterine fibroids when I was in my early 20's- treated me the same as MD.

I was told DOs do not go to medical school, but to other similar training. They treat the whole person ,not just the ailment. They do the same surgical residence as an md.

Re: Anyone's OB/GYN a D.O not an MD?
If you look into the curriculum for a DO's educational program you will see that it is very extensive and is comparable to an MD program. The degree, I believe, is Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Some of these doctors will take a more holistic approach. The one I went to (not for OB) knew a lot about herbs and vitamins but she still did conventional things and she most certainly made me take antibiotics when I needed them. She was one of the only doctors that looked into the problem of why I was having repeated throat infections at that time. I really liked her. Now I have a friend who is in school to be a DO, plus I am very interested in a pediatrician who is one. I didn't know there were many DO obstetricians, though.
