Rain barrels - anyone (Kelly?) use these?
This caught my eye in a catalog I just got. I've always wanted to do this - collect rainwater for watering the lawn and my plants, inside and outside the house, even washing the car.
Anyone have one of these? This one is the cheapest I could find at $55.00. They have others for up to $250.00 for a double set.
Such a cool idea.
Here's the full list from gardeners.com

I think the size depends upon the area you want to irrigate, and the amount of rain.... we're reasonably wet on LI, so a smaller one should be fine, as long as you don't need it for a large area.....

I have not used them ,but they are often mentioned in the gardening/sustainable living books I've read. I've thought about putting one under the greenhouse since all of our house gutters have underground leaders that run them out to drywells. I've also seen DIY projects to make them on HGTV.

I have been dying to get one of these - I saw one at Smith & Hawken that I loved. In the time being, I sit my watering can outside and let it gather rain and "drainage" from when I water the hanging planter.

Ah but they've got your situation covered too: Downspout diverter.
It's like they read your mind or something.
I don't know if you want to go putting a hole in your downspout though.
I was a little concerned about mosquitos but maybe that netting on top takes care of that problem. I haven't seen a closeup of it, so I don't know if the openings are big enough for bugs.
