Detergent seems to have "stained" granite counter top??
We have been in our brand new home (new construction) for less than two months.
For awhile we kept the laundry detergent on the bathroom counter, which is granite.
The part of he counter where the cup of detergent sat on and off is now dullish in the shape of the cup. Clearly, some of the detergent got on the counter and appears to maybe have worn off the shiny top coat of the granite?
We tried some special granite cleaner we got at BB&B with no luck.
Does anyone have ANY idea whats going on? And how to fix it?

It had a shiny coating over it. It's brand new, we didn't have it installed. I assume it was?
How can I tell?
No other toothpaste, soap, lotion, etc has penetrated it like this has.

I would assume it was sealed when it was installed - esp. if nothing else is leaving marks. If the polish came off, you might have to get someone in to repolish and reseal it.

It's so weird.. I wonder what it is about ALL detergent that makes it just "eat through" the sealing?

I know you can't use amonia on granite - so maybe the detergent has amonia or a similar chemical in the product - amonia is in windex

You can buy something from your granite supplier that will help...my mom has it, sorry I don't know the name. It stains with oils as well...ask your granite supplier (or any supplier)

ditto. I would def stop putting the detergent directly on the granite. They is probably chemicals in the detergent that is doing damage to the granite.
