Failed my one hour glucose test

I wish there was some way to prepare for the 3 hour...like not eat sugar or something.

So what does it mean for the pregnancy if you fail the three hour? Strict diet?

First of all, sorry to hear you failed the 1 hour.

I failed the 1 hour also. For the 3 hour, you will have to fast. I couldn't have anything after midnight before the 3 hour test. I ended up passing. Many of us on this site failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour.

Not sure what happens if you fail the 3 hour as I didn't get to that point. But I think it involves eating differently, watching your diet. SOme girls have to test their blood and take insulin depending on how advanced the GD is. Good luck! When do you take the 3 hour?

Thank you! I'm about to call the lab and see if I can take the test Saturday morning; I'm trying not to take time off from work.

I hear that the majority of people that fail the 1 hour...myself included...pass the 3 hour. I passed the 3 hour but my baby is on the big side, so they're treating me with GD. I don't mind as long as I don't have to take insulin shots. I test my blood 6 times a day and follow a low carb diet. GOOD LUCK!!!

Sorry to hear that you failed. How it was explained to me was that there is nothing that you really can do at all.

The placenta releases a horomone called HPL. HPL interferes with the conversion of glucose into usable sugars. Therefore, the glucose builds up in your system causing the GD.

There are medications you can take before you have to move on to insulin. They try to regulate your diet first, then add a medication and if this doesn't work, then they put you on insulin.

In my case, I think we are heading down the insulin path because the two placentas are making this so much harder. I have followed the strict diet and medication and blood monitoring, but at times, my blood is still too high!

I have GDM and am currently on a strict diet and insulin 4x per day (2 fast acting shots for breakfast/dinner, 2 long lasting shots - one at night and one in the AM).
The hi-risk doctor will monitor your blood sugar levels at every visit (you'll keep a daily log) as well as monitor your blood pressure, your weight, and the baby's weight and growth. They also will give you non stress tests and hook you up to the fetal monitor.

I see the high risk doctor once a week and my doctor once a week ... by the time I reach 36 weeks I will see the high risk doctor 2x per week and my doctor 1x per week. They monitor you VERY Closely and will make sure you and baby stay healthy.
