My birth story and some pics...
OK – I finally have a free minute to post my birth story. It is long so I will try and make it as short as possible…
At my 38 week visit, Dr H found that my cervix was bloody and could tell that there would be definite change within the next 24 hrs…after being 90% effaced and 4 cm since week 32 that was a welcome change!! She asked that I be at the hospital the following morning at 8 am, unless of course I went into labor before that.
So on Friday 8/10 DH & I went to the hospital at 8 am and Dr. found that I was btwn 5-6 cm so they admitted me and took me to a L&D room. Within a couple hours I had dilated to 7 cm, but since my contractions were never regular or consistent (oddly enough, up until this pt I had felt no intense pain) I was given some pitocin to regulate them. Even though I wasn’t feeling too much pain, I asked for my epidural bc I was afraid the pain would soon start. My water was broken and within 30 min, even with the epidural I was really feeling uncomfortable. Dr came to check and I was 10 cm.
I began pushing at around 2:00, but at around 3:30 or so the epidural was working so well that I had no feeling in my legs and was not feeling any contractions, so they had to turn it off. Well, 4 hrs later and I was still pushing…Dr could see the baby’s head, but it would just pop right back in. Bc the epidural had been turned off I was having intense pain and extreme back labor (I found out later that baby was facing up)…and since the baby’s heart rate had dropped a couple times, the Dr recommended we do a c-section. I was so disappointed bc I been pushing for so long and really wanted to give birth vaginally. I begged the Dr to let me continue pushing, but he said that he really didn’t think the baby’s head would fit through my pelvic bone.
So, at around 7:10 I was taken to the OR and baby Thomas was born at 7:29 pm. He was 7 lbs, 6 oz. I had a private room at Winthrop which was definitely worth it…the first night there was no private rooms available and I didn’t make it to my room from recovery until after 12 and I really wanted to just hold my baby and spend some time with him, but my roommate was sleeping and I felt so guilty!
Recovering from the c-section hasn’t been the easiest thing, but holding Thomas makes it so worth it!! It is so incredible…I find myself staring at him in disbelief that he is mine!!!
**ETA - FYI: I brought a 0-3 month outfit to bring him home in and it was SO big on him. The day we went home he was 7 lbs. I had to send DH home to bring me something that was a little smaller. Today at his Dr appt he measured 7 lbs, 6 oz again, but even still, the 0-3 month clothing is way too big...ive been dressing him in NB size!!

We had the same problem with DD..her clothes are SOOO big on her!! I bought her so many cute outfits too, but I doubt she'll get to wear them.
