to quit or not to quit...Updated at bottom
sorry...but this will be long
I told my currect co on Monday that I wanted to leave and that I have another offer on the table. My current employer asked that I give them a chance to work something out. Well today is now Friday...still no resolutions..however Corporate has gotten involved. They tell me that they are trying to work something out...but it will take time.
So my issue is do I let this other job offer go and wait...or do I bow out now.
I don't dislike what I do...I just have too much of it to do and not enough pay. The other job's pay is equal to what I make...but it is far less work.
What's making this decision so hard is that with the co I work for now there is room for advancement or change in the future...which will not be available at the new place.
I have been toying with this decision for 5 days...and didn't sleep last night trying to decide what to do. Time is closing in on me and I need to make up my mind.
I would really appreciate any insight that anyone has.
TIA
P.S. I promise I will update

Quit. If they REALLY wanted to keep you, they would have given you a counter offer right away.
Also, VERY OFTEN, when a company gives a counter-offer and the employee accepts it, the company begins searching for a replacement and then gets rid of the employee. The counter-offer is really just a tool to keep people in jobs until a replacement can be found.

I agree, I have read your previous posts about your current job and they were very bad. You found something else, I think it's time to quit. JMO

Re: to quit or not to quit
I would take the new offer, Sue brings up a good point, they would be "working" much faster to keep you if they really wanted to. I work for the President of a co so I know that they can make things happen if/when they want to...
Good luck!!

I agree - quit. It shouldn't take more than a day or two come back with a counter offer.

Re: to quit or not to quit
Accept the other offer.
What I've found with our employees is once they've started to look for another job the damage is done. We can counter and that will hold them for a little while but in the end, they're leaving for reasons other than money.

Re: to quit or not to quit...updated at bottom
Well the VP finally called me into his office to discuss the possibilty of compensating me....and he told me that HR and Corporate has informed him that it is not Co Policy to compensate and employee in this situation.
so I am officially leaving my Co and moving on.
I am a little scared...but I think its for the best

I was in this same spot two years ago. I took the less work, less room for advancement, less prestigeous job and you know what...I couldn't be happier. My stress level and complaining level from work have decreased 100% and I think I am an overall happier and nicer person for it.
