Back from dentist-in pain

I had a filling done this morning by my normal dentists "associate". He didn't numb me enough so I felt it (omg pain). But now, I tried to eat something and bit down and it was painful. Could it just be from him poking and proding at me, or did he not do it right?
I am really sick of all these doctors lately!

You shouldn't be in pain after a filling.
But it's possible he bruised you or something when putting the needle in.
I would see how it feels in a few hours and if you are still in pain call their emergency #.

Feel better! Chat Icon

Was it a deep filling? I've been sore after those. Other than that, it could be where he put the novocaine in...my old dentist used to love to shoot it into the nerve that controlled the opening and closing of my jaw. Chat Icon

He may have nicked you with the drill or something. If it doesn't feel better by tomorrow you should call!

I'm going thru this now- i got 2 root canals and a really deep filling done last week and i think i have either a gum or a jaw infection. It was a week yesterday and I'm still in pain- I've been on antibiotics since Sunday. Hope you feel better soon!

Re: Back from dentist-in pain

My DH is a dentist and he said...

it is possible for a day or two to have pain and sensitivity (due to the proding around the nerve), but if it persists past Friday you should contact the dentist.

eta: I know I've had fillings done in the past that only hurt when I bit down on them, for a while after, and I think DH said it was b/c the filling could be sitting very close to the nerve. It ended up going away eventually. (He just left the house so I couldn't ask him again why I had this)

Re: Back from dentist-in pain

I had a filling done last year that was a close call from a root canal (it was extremely close to the nerve). It definitely was very sensitive and hurt for about 3 or 4 days and then went away.
