Re: does anyone ?
I knit - couple of basic stitches. I am planning on taking one of the Michaels' classes on crocheting to "finish off" the stuff that i make.

Re: does anyone ?
I know how to crochet. The basic stitch isn't very hard. My grandmother taught me. I can't knit at all though.

Basically, crochet is done with one needle that has a hook, and knit is done with two needles that have points.
ETA: I crochet. My mom taught me when I was a little kid. I tried to teach myself how to knit with a book but never got beyond the basic stich.
Right now my pattern books are locked in a file cabinet with a missing key in storage.

Re: does anyone ?
I knit -- but I don't know how to do the last row to finish the project. I go to the store to have them finish the scarves. I think that you crochet with a hook but knit with needles.

Re: does anyone ?
I knit and can do advanced stitches. I can only do basic crochet but that's because I never got into it.
You could post on the "Craft" board and ask for tutorial/books for beginner.

I knit and crochet. You can pick up a "Teach Yourself" kinda book from Michaels, some come with some hooks, and gadgets. I may even have some lying around that I can send you, i can check when I get home tonight.
I already starting knitting a baby blanket. I'll leave the crocheted blankets to the grandmas, since my mom only crochets.

Re: does anyone ?
I think I found crocheting easier. Understanding the patterns can be tough sometimes, but there are good tutorials for that. Working with just one hook instead of two needles helps.
I had a hard time with knitting in the beginning, but now I love it. I do a new stitch or technique each project.
Also, I think crocheting produces a quicker blanket (less rows). I could be wrong, but thats how it feels. Also, it usually looks nice on both sides (even the "wrong side"). With knitting you usually have a wrong side that is all purls (usually what the inside of your sweaters looks like, the bumps) so it only looks nice on one side.
