Placenta praevia
SO I was officially diagnosed with placenta praevia yesterday. my dcotor called me at home to tell me and to tell me that until it clears up, no sex.
we go for another sonogram at 28 weeks, hopefully by then, it will have moved.
dh is not happy about the no sex thing. but he knows that its for the best.

Re: Placenta praevia
I had a low lying placenta at my 20 week ultrasound also. Doctor put me on "pelvic rest", no sex and no heavy lifting.
At the 28 week ultrasound we were told the placenta had shifted out of the way!!! Don't worry, there's a really good chance the placenta will move up!

Re: Placenta praevia
I had a low lying placenta and it moved.
My doctor told me that if it's a full previa meaning your placenta is totally covering ther cervix, then it will not move.
Is that true?

Re: Placenta praevia
Usually full placenta previa does NOT move....I had full previa and it stayed that way until delivery..I was put on bedrest to lessen the bleeding I was having...ended up having my son at 36 weeks.

that stinks... heres hoping that at 28 weeks everything is fine - i heard it was common and alot of time fixes itself by that 28 week mark!

Re: Placenta praevia
thanks all. I don't know if its full or only partial. so i won't know more until 28 weeks. but it's good to hear that its common and not something i can really be too concerned about.

Re: Placenta praevia
Is that true about the full coverage not moving? I was diagnosed at 12 weeks... going for the 20 on Sat and hoping it was going to have moved... I guess not?

Re: Placenta praevia
I have a low lying placenta, too. I think it will move. I need to have a C-section anyway so I just hope that if I continue to have a low lying placenta, there are no complications from it. The good news is that my placenta is in the posterior, which means that they can do the C-section cut in the usual spot. I read that there is a more of a chance of this if you have had a uterine surgery before, and I have.
I really think that finding a low lying placenta at 20 weeks is not a huge concern, just something to monitor. I don't have full placenta previa.

Re: Placenta praevia
my dr told me that if it stays in the same position, i'd have to have a c-section. i'm not really too worried about it, i figure so long as i do what i can, its not really in my hands.
