Baby Laundry

On the subject of baby laundry I need some advice. I live in a coop with a laundry room downstairs that is used by the entire building. The building is huge so the laundry mat has frequent use. I wash DH & mines clothes downstairs fine but I feel a little skeeved out washing my babies clothes down there. The thing is we are technically not supposed to have washers in the apartments although I know of plenty of people who have sneaked them in. My mom volunteered to take the baby's clothes and wash them in her house but I live in Manhattan and my mom lives in LI. I don't think that's pratical....

My question is do you think I'm being too neurotic about not washing the baby's clothes downstairs or should I just sneak in a small washer. I'm so confusedChat Icon

Re: Baby Laundry

Your not being crazy. What you can do is do your wash first and then wash the babies so you know the last clothes were yours inside it. You can also run it on a quick cycle maybe. I am sure many people have the same issue.

I just woauld wash my clothes first thent he babies.

Re: Baby Laundry

I go to the laundry mat and I wash DD's clothes in the washer. It's not that big of a deal since when you think about, the clothes come out clean, so it's not like the person's dirt that washed before you ends up on your clothes.

Re: Baby Laundry

We were just discussing the same thing and were thinking about getting a machine for the apt (sneaking one in). But truthfully it will be more of a hassle than helpful.
I was more intested in getting it so I don't have to schlep to the other building with baby and laundry.

Someone in our complex cleans the insides of the washing machines with wipes just to make sure all soap from the previous wash is gone. If you think you would be scheeved, maybe that would help?

When DS was first born we had a washer and dryer in the house we were renting, since he was born we have moved. I don't mind doing his clothes at the laundromat. I know they clean the machines. I just wait a while b/c baby clothes are SOO tiny and the machines are SOO big that it takes like 3 weeks of his clothes, sheets, blankets, towels, boppy covers etc to fill the smallest machine.
