new at this... not quite TTC

am new at this so bear with me Chat Icon

why do most people/doctors say to wait to TTC until you get your actual period after being off BC? what would happen if you got PG right after going off BC? is that bad?

They only tell you to wait so they can be more accurate with the dates (of ovulation & conception). When you stop taking bc, your body could take a few months to be on a cycle.

Nothing will happen if you get pg as soon as you stop taking the pill, it will just be a little harder to guess how far along you are, but even with that- the dates will probably only be about a week off.

Re: new at this... not quite TTC

I got preggo 2 weeks after going off the pill - never had an actual period to use as a date. It was a little confusing in the beginning bc they weren't sure when I got pregnant, but as soon as I had the sono it would up being the same as what the doctor originally told me. It was only confusing for a few days - not a big deal at all!

Nothing at all to worry about in terms of the health of the baby, as others have said its just to more accurately date the pregnancy. If your doctor isn't sure they'll send you for an early ultrasound to figure out the due date (Which happens all the time for those of us with irregular cycles!)

If it makes you feel better some doctors even recommend that women with irregular cycles (PCOS or other conditions) start trying right away from coming off the pill because the pill can sort of normalize them for a bit...

Good luck to you when you are ready!
