Have you ever been called

A racist?
And how did you handle that?

This infuriates me to no end...
I have had this word thrown at me once and it bothered me a lot

Mainly because the person felt that just because i didn't agree with their sad ways that i was a "racist"
I wanted to say.."YOU ARE AN AZZ" not because of your color and/or religion BUT JUST BECAUSE IT IS YOU...PLAIN OLE YOU

No not personally but I don't think that accusation should be thrown around lightly and it seems that people do

No I've never been called that but I agree that people like to throw it around. Sometimes you just can't disagree with a person without them thinking it's a race issue.

I can also see the other side of the coin though. I could see how in some situations a person who is not a minority may have a hard time understanding a particular situation or argument because they lack the ability to empathize.

I once used a word that I could have replaced with the word "tacky" and someone got very offended by it.

I apologized when the person got offended, but the person reacted with a LOT of hostility and it seemed like the more I apologized for offending her, the more irrate she got.

Sometimes I think people get offended and react with the WORST possible statement they can think of, just to be hurtful- even if they know it's not true.

Not directly, unless you count the small number of kids who have called me a "white *****" and complained about me not liking black/Latino kids. In those situations I found it easier to ignore at the moment, but bring up with parents. It always had more to do with them than me- like if I called a kid on bad behavior, it usually became, "You don't like me because I am ___" to which I would point out that I didn't like their bad behavior and accusations. I hate to say that while it does not happen often it does not surprise me anymore.

It's more disturbing when I hear other adults making references to "these white teachers", etc. I don't doubt that people have their prejudices but to me it's hypocritical to paint everyone the same. If I had such a problem with people/kids of other races I would have left NYC a long time ago.

No and I don't think I would act very nicely if I ever was to be called that.

No, but my step-father has - he had to go to sensitivity training because of it

Somebody called me one once in a joking manner and I was infuriated. I'm not racist in the least bit.

No, I've never been called a racist, however, I've been on the receiving end of racial comments.
