Spinoff to Seatbelts: Under the arm?
I've seen a lot of TV shows where the person has the shoulder belt under their arm. Why? What is the purpose of that? It seems more uncomfortable, and in an accident, it's going to cause a lot of damage. Across the shoulder, the chest takes the brunt of the force. Under the arm, the soft abdomen takes the force, which is not good.
Does anyone here do that? If so, what is the intent? I'm not judging, just wondering....

I do that - if I don't the seat belt is slicing into my neck.

I don't do that, but as a person who is on the short side (5'2) sometimes the belt cuts into my neck and it's really uncomfortable. I kind of just deal with it and pray for no red marks on my neck.

I tend to do that when I'm in the passenger seat.
The seatbelt coming from the right really irratiates my collarbone for some reason and is super uncomfortable.
So I either tuck it under my arm or I wind up adjusting it 10,000 times!!

I guess people don't like the way it feels with the strap over their arm. It's not safe...obviously.

Re: Spinoff to Seatbelts: Under the arm?
I read an article (after the Corzine incident) that said that wearing the seatbelt under the arm is like wearing no belt at all in the event of an accident.
