All of Freddy's records were sent out to rehab places
Hopefully some of these places will accept him. There is a chance they won't because he is a strange case.
I'm nervous he will just end up in a nursing home instead of an aggressive rehab program that he needs.
The stress of this may just kill me. I see him tonight.

Try and be patient, when we think it's a strange case....it's the norm to these places.
You have been amazing, and he should be proud to have a sister as wonderful as you!
Even the social worker at the hospital says it's a strange case.
One of the nursing homes in Glen Cove said that they would specialize a program for him using therapies for traumatic brain injury even though they are not accredited.
They are supposed to be very good there but I can't get passed the look of the place and the fact that it's a nursing home.
Hopefully, after I see the two facilities today I will know more.

DH was in a nursing home/rehab facility and they kept the TBI patients in a seperate wing from the eldery patients in the nursing home area.
ETA: When I was searching for a place for DH, I was told most TBI facilites are connected with nursing homes. Try not to let that bother. He will still get wonderful care.

Thanks I just want him to do well. Him sitting in the hospital right now rotting is having a regression effect. Last night he was very tired and really wasn't making too much sense. He spoke in complete sentences about stuff I couldn't understand. He looked annoyed and bored. I tried to encourage him but it was very difficult for me. His speech is affected so when I ask him to repeat he gets annoyed. I try not to get him agitated. He didn't sleep the other night so I asked them to give him something. The companion that sits with him to make sure he doesn't rip out his IVs and tubes last night was almost useless. She was hard of hearing and not strong enough to handle him. He's a 44 year old guy and is quick and strong. Add that to his current mental condition. Oy!
God is surely testing me....and him

I'm back. I saw Southside and Glen Cove.
Southside has the better program for him and is in a good location for us to visit. They accepted him for the program today. Very happy that he can get into an aggressive program
I still need to see who else would accept him. Mt. Sinai and Helen Hayes are the top programs in the Northeast. Hard to get to for most of his friends and family and that's an important part of rehab..emotional support.
If both programs accept him I don't know what to do. His kids and my sister in law (his x) probably couldn't get there more than once a week. I could go to Mt. Sinai a few times a week since I work in the city. Helen Hayes is way up there. My cousins are up there and could see him a few days a week.
It's such a dilemma.
At least one program accepted him but it's a short term program..maybe 6 weeks or so. He needs a lot of rehab. Could be many months.

glad to hear that he got into Southside. I'm sure others will accept him as well. have a family meeting and you should all be a part of the decision making process on where he goes. this should not all fall on your shoulders!

That's great that he was accepted someplace. It's a start. And I agree about having a family meeting. You got him this far, it's time for the family to help. And the best they can do for you is find time to visit him.
