Poor Motility

Is it worth trying IUI if there is a motility issue? So confused. My RE suggested it but if it fails we are going to IVF. Does this sound right?

Re: Poor Motility

I would go right on to IVF. You have a better chance at getting pg with it.

Re: Poor Motility

Usually there is no point to IUI if there is poor motility cuz the little guys still have to swim up the tubes. IVF is the recommended procedure with ICSI (each egg is fertilized with sperm).

IUI cant hurt, they will wash out the bad sperm and put them closer to the egg. BUt I wouldnt waste too much time with it.

Re: Poor Motility

I agree with the pp - I wasted a whole precious year on useless IUIs

Re: Poor Motility

What is the motility? You have a number?

And how is the rest of the criteria?

We had poor morphology and choose to go with the iuis after a urologist consuilt ( specializing in male infertility) and the rest of the criteria being average to above average.

If the count is low or something else is off, I wouldnt waste time on the IUI. Chat Icon

Well the RE said count is good. The motility was a little below average..i didn't ask for specific numbers.
I was going to try the IUI in May if I get AF. RE wants to do 2 days back to back. If AF shows in again then consider doing IVF right away and forget abotu IUI. Is it worth trying it just this once?

Re: Poor Motility

2 things to consider:

1. Does your insurance cover IUI and not IVF? If so, I would try one IUI anyway.

2. With an IUI, they get a sense of how you react to the fertility meds. so it might be worth it if only for that reason.... again depends on what the cost will be to you...and time...
