No shower?
Did anyone not have a shower or not feel like having one?
I hate being the center of attention. I'd rather hang out with a small group of family or friends than have a large catered party. Having it at my mom or dad's house is out of the question, b/c my parent's are divorced and pretty much despise each other, so the two sides are divided, also adding to my not wanting to have them all together in one room and me freaking out.
Although my bridal shower was fun.
Did anyone not have one and regret it?

Re: No shower?
My 1st shower I had 12 people. There was drama about having a big one and I was set on not having one and def not in the mood.
My SIL surprised me, It was nice, it was more a brunch and get together with my close friends/family at my SIL"s than a baby shower. I loved it.

Re: No shower?
That sounds really nice. I wonder if I can split my family into two and have 2 smaller showers so I don't have to deal with warring relatives.

Re: No shower?
I'm the same way - I don't like to make a big deal out of things.
Instead I had two very small showers. One at my mom's and one at my MIL's - so no big catering hall or crazy favors, etc.
Just a couple of lowkey events where I could talk to everyone and enjoy myself.
Would having one on your dad's side and one on your mom's side be an option?

I would like this much better. I am at the point that I am fed up with family and their lack of consideration. I have extended family that is so two faced that all they do is sit there and talk about everyone else. I have tried telling my Mom that I don't want one and she says "nonsense, you're having one".

Yeah, and actually, my mom and about 5 close fiends live in the city, so maybe I can have a small thing w/my mom and my friends and then my dad's family on LI.
I really hate this stuff.

Re: No shower?
I am not sure if I want one. If I have one, I do not want it to be as big as my bridal shower was. I also do not feel comfortable having people start to plan it when I am only 3 or 4 months.

Re: No shower?
My in-laws live in Montreal and my family here on Long Island. When we visited Montreal in January, they threw us a shower in my BIL's house. I had no idea about it at all. There was about a dozen people there. It was very nice and small and intimate. Then last weekend my family here threw a shower at a restaurant. It was only 20 people (including a couple of kids) and it was very intimate as well. I enjoyed both and I depise being the center of attention. Since both parties were so small, it was easier for me to be comfortable.... I do think I would regret it if I didnt have one....

Re: No shower?
If you're not comfortable with it, don't have one. You could always have a lunch out with a few family and close friends.
You should definitely do (or not do) what you are comfortable with.

Re: No shower?
I didn't want a baby shower - its a personal preference.
My mother asked if I did - when i didn't want one - she gave us a big gift of cash to me and DH as if she was throwing us a shower and asked us to buy whatever we needed for the baby.
We ended up getting lots of gifts, clothes anyway from our family and close friends.

Re: No shower?
I'm not having a baby shower...of course you don't have to have one if you don't want it!! You will still get lots of gifts for your baby, and you can still register. I would make sure you let your closest friends/family know that you don't want one...otherwise they will likely surprise you.

Re: No shower?
Thanks everyone. I wasn't even thinking about a shower yet, my mom asked me if I wanted one and I was like not really! I'll think about it a little more; I have a long way to go anyway. Thanks again for the replies!

Re: No shower?
I also do not enjoy being the center of attention and normally do not like showers. My bridal shower was small and intimate and that still scared the heck out of me. I am having a baby shower though, can't really explain why I want one now though. I'm trying not to think about having everyone look at me. But I did ask that my nieces and nephews be there to help me out to take some of the "eyes" off of me
